Hello,

I work for a TV show that helps families adopt and care for animals. We have an episode scheduled for the last week of August and would like to feature a dog from your shelter! The family is looking for a doodle, about 8 months – 2 years, hypoallergenic, and is good with children. Do you have any available? I see that you have a lot of wonderful dogs! They’re mostly looking for a hypoallergenic dog to give a happy home to.

The family lives in South Orange, NJ. We would pay for the dog to be flown out to meet the family and will give a donation to your shelter. We would make travel arrangements for the dog to make it safely to the family.

We can give you more details regarding this. Please let me know if this is something that you would be interested in and I can give you more information. Thank you and I look forward to speaking with you!

8/23/2018 – my response – maybe, but I need to know more about you and the family.

Thank you for your inquiry.  I appreciate your work in helping shelter pets find homes.

I would like to hear more.  I have quite a few hypoallergenic dogs such as you described.

There are a couple of requirements we would have.  I would need full information on the family and be able to do a reference screening on this family just as we would with any family adopting a dog.    I am assuming you’ve done some screening already of the home.  I can better guide and suggest which dog is their best match if I know who I’m matching.

The family will need to sign our adoption contract.  A big part of our adoption contract is the dog comes back to us if the match does not work out or if lives change – and this applies to any time in the dog’s life.

I do not fly dogs.  There are too many unknowns in flying dogs that are dangerous for the dog.  Could we negotiate that one of our staff could drive the dog to New Jersey?

Please let me know which show you represent.  I would like to research your previous matches and see how we could best partner with you.

If you think we can work together, please reach out.  I look forward to hearing from you.

8/24/2018 – Jonathan tells me no.

Hi Donna,

Thank you for your reply. I completely understand you not being comfortable flying dogs out. Airlines can barely keep track of luggage. This is a rare case for our show. We had a couple of set backs so we scrambling!

Unfortunately, we do have a time restriction and our budget doesn’t give us space for having a pup be driven out.

Thank you for all your hard work! And we will keep you in mind if anything comes up.

Best,

Jonathan

So I figured I would not hear from Jonathan again but I did send him a note with possible financial arrangements for ground transport and how the money for ground compared to air.
