Carolina Poodle Rescue (CPR) prefers to adopt Standard Poodles to home that have fenced yards.
However, under certain circumstances, homes that do not have fences may be eligible to adopt a
Standard Poodle.
If you would like to adopt a Standard Poodle but do not have a fenced yard, please review the following to
determine whether you meet the criteria for adopting one of these large dogs.
Criteria for adopting a Standard Poodle without a fence:
Previous dog ownership – preferably a standard, but at least some kind of dog. Not a first time dog owner!
Stellar vet report.
Outstanding references.
Able to show CPR that you have sufficient time to spend exercising the dog.
Able to provide CPR with a schedule of your current life, and denote exercise time for the new dog.
Able to show CPR that the new dog will not spend more than 4 hours in a stretch in a crate.
Able to show CPR that you have time for a minimum of two daily walks of at least 15 minutes each.
Able to verify access and/or membership to an off-leash dog park or some other fenced facility. (This can be a
friend who will tell CPR that you and your new dog have an open invitation to their fenced-in yard.)
Able to schedule time for 15 minute (or longer) sessions, which mount up to a weekly total of two hours of
off-leash running / playing time.
Commits to a basic obedience class within the first 6 months of ownership.
