My Story

Date into rescue: 12/3/2017

Reason for being in rescue?    Rescued from a puppy mill

Special Needs?Untrusting of people

What kind of home would be best for me?   Duncan has not had a good life and he needs a lot of patience and time. We're looking for an experienced puppy mill rehabber who understands loving a puppy mill dog is a lifelong commitment.  The reward of a social dog who shows his love may be a long time in coming (if it ever does) but is worth the work to get to it. He must have another happy and gregarious dog in his home, preferably a toy breed female, who he can pal around with.  He's not breed picky. His current favorites are a long haired dachshund and a maltese.  Oh and he likes the poodles, too.

What is my personality like?  Extremely happy with other dogs, especially "his" girls (the girls that came with him from the puppy mill. But for people he has no use.  He runs and hides.  He's okay once we get our hands on him but he has a long, long way to go.

How do I act when I meet new people? Timid and fearful.

Tips and Tidbits: Duncan needs a lot of help.  He has no reason to trust people and came from a nasty puppy mill with many dogs and not enough care.  He needs your understanding and patience to become somewhat of a normal dog.  With Duncan's age,  our best guess is between 8 and 10 years. His listed birth date is a guess. He could be as young as 5 and as old as 10.  He's had a rough life.

House trained?   Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours.  We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
