My Story

Date into Rescue: 4/2/2018

Reason for being in rescue: Owner release to NC shelter due to him not getting along with the children in the household

Special Needs: Has a 2/6 heart murmur, no treatment from our veterinarian is recommended at this time. He also does not have many teeth and will need soft food and regular dental check ups.

Estimated Birthdate: 3/29/2008

What kind of home would be best for me: We are seeking a home with an experienced dog owner and someone who is home more than they're away. He would also do best in a home with no children or calm children older than 10 years. He does not do well in a home with very playful young children/toddlers. He would prefer to be the only spoiled animal in the house hold. Lt Dan would be the perfect dog to keep a single person company.

What is my personality like: Dan is an estimated 10 year old long haired Chihuahua. He is a total lap dog and would make a great companion for someone looking for a dog to keep them company. He walks fine on a leash but does not know any basic commands. When he gets attached to his person, he goes all in and is completely devoted. He does resource guard his favorite people with other dogs and sometimes other humans. He does snap at people and other dogs when guarding his humans, and even chases them off (he does not have many teeth to bite with). He responds well to a stern "no" from the person he is guarding when he does so and this is something that should continue to be worked with because it is still an issue. Please note that Dan needs someone that can be with him most of the time and has anxiety when his people leave him. This is just a tiny in your pocket dog that loves his people with all of his heart and will go to the ends of the earth to keep/protect them!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Shy in new situations but friendly

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
