Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Dachshund / Mixed (short coat)
Weight: 13.40 lbs
Height: 7 in
Estimated Birthdate: 2/13/2012
Fence Needed: No
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue: Owner release to sc shelter, was adopted from shelter but returned due to biting the child in the home. Please note we do NOT know what the child was doing that triggered the incident or if it was a bite or a nip.
Special Needs: Spanky has a fistula (a whole in his mouth) that affects his eating. He needs hard food. If food gets into the hole, it has to be flushed out. If not, he has sneezing fits. If he eats only hard food he is fine. Spanky had a small mass on the side of his mouth that our vet removed. It does not have anything to do with the fistula. It is called a sebaceous cyst.
What kind of home would be best for me: Spanky needs a home with no children and would do best in an only dog home or a home with calm dogs.
What is my personality like: My name is Spanky. I am very loving and I am a kisser. I’m not too fond of storms, maybe an anxiety vest will calm me down a bit. I’m ok around other small dogs. I can climb 6 foot fences, but I can’t get back down without a little help.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly.
Tips and Tidbits: Spanky was an owner release to a South Carolina shelter due to biting the child in the home. He will not be placed in a home with children under 18. Note with us he's been easy going but there are only adults at the poodle farm.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
