My Story

Date into Rescue: 05/07/2018

Reason for being in rescue: Pulled from NC animal shelter. Puffer was surrendered to a shelter by owners that could no longer care for him.

Special Needs: Yes, Puffer has a heart murmur. He is on Vetmedin twice a day. Vetmedin is estimated to be about $35 per bottle.

What kind of home would be best for me? Puffer would do best in a quiet and calm environment. We have noticed lately that he does get snippy when in high stress situations and when he does not want to be bothered. He does have ongoing medical needs due to a heart murmor. Owner Experience Level: 3-First time dog owner but has lived with a dog as an adult and participated in the dog's care.

What is my personality like: Puffer is a sweet boy. Though he has lived the majority of his life outdoors, you would not know it. He is curious about everything and would love nothing more than to sit beside you on the couch and sleep in your bed. Puffer is quiet. He rarely barks (unless he is in a crate) and really prefers to just engage calmly and quietly. Puffer is great with other dogs and indifferent to cats. He rides well in a car, but will sing to you until he settles down in his crate. Puffer has very few teeth (we aren't sure why). As a result, he eats a diet of soft or wet food. He will need to be on this for the remainder of his life.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Very friendly

Tips and Tidbits:

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
