My Story

Date into Rescue: 5/7/18

Reason for being in rescue: Rescue transfer from a puppy mill bust.

Special Needs: This dog is heartworm positive (HW+).  He will be sent home with a one year supply of heartworm medication (TriHeart). He is being treated with a method called the slow kill treatment. He takes a monthly Ivermectin based heartworm preventative and needs to be re-tested for heartworms every 6 months. Once he tests negative, then he can take any kind of heartworm preventative; he is not restricted to Ivermectin based only.

What kind of home would be best for me? "How slow can you go?"  Willie is a sleeping kind of guy - he's retired, and he's enjoying it.  He loves to sleep.  He also loves attention.  Work all day and want a lap dog at night?  Willie is your guy.  He'll keep the home safe and comfy for you while you are gone and greet you happily when you return.  Home all day and looking for a lap guy:  Willie will be happy to fit that bill.

What is my personality like: Just like the original Willie Nelson, the dog version of Willie Nelson is a fun loving, easy going boy with not a care in the world. All he cares about is basking in the sunshine, being in a humans lap and receive yummy treats. Willie has gotten along well with dogs and cats alike and pays no mind to them. Willie has big dreams about being in his own home one day!

How do I act when I first meet new people: loves humans

Tips and Tidbits: Willie Nelson was a transfer from a different SC rescue. He loves to snuggle under blankets and will look out at your like he's happiest he can be.  We often find him on top of the snuggle blanket in the am as he likes to rearrange himself during the night.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
