My Story

Date into Rescue: 7/7/18

Reason for being in rescue: Haymitch and his siblings were found abandoned in a home. Their owner passed away some time earlier and sadly no one checked on the dogs for many, many days. When Haymitch landed at a shelter, CPR stepped up to help these timid puppies rehabilitate and find forever homes.

Special Needs: He does seem to have cataracts starting in at least his left eye.

What kind of home would be best for me: Haymitch is an incredibly shy dog who will need a patient, experienced owner to help him learn to trust. He will likely not do well in a home with children or where there is a lot of noise.

What is my personality like: Haymitch is a shy boy who needs a patient family to help him come out of his shell. He's good with his brothers, but very low energy and not too interested in romping around with them. He is also a little less treat motivated than his siblings, but it might just be that he's still people shy. Haymitch displays no food or crate aggression. Due to his shyness, he has not been tested around cats yet. When you put a lead on him, he freezes.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Very shy and nervous, he will run, but once you corner him, he lets you pick him up.

Tips and Tidbits: This poor boy is very scared of new people, but as we write this, he is falling asleep in my lap. He WANTS to cuddle, but he’s afraid to. Once you have him, he slowly turns to putty!

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
