My Story

Date into Rescue: 1/12/2019

Reason for being in rescue: Owner release- can't care for/works long hours

Special Needs: none noted

What kind of home would be best for me: Dixie needs an active home with owners that have experience with a large, energetic, high strung dog.

What is my personality like: So far, Dixie seems to be high strung and hates being crated or in small fenced in areas. She has a lot of energy and wants to be out in the open! She has shown a little interest in toys but is far too distracted by everything going on around her. UPDATE - 01/30/19, Dixie gravitates to toys, squeaky toys, tennis balls, she LOVES them.

When walking on a leash she gets overly excited and pulls constantly. Dixie would benefit greatly by obedience training and also someone that can pin point where her anxiety stems from. Some dogs she is okay with but she would vastly prefer to be your one and only with perhaps occasional play dates.  Dogs that are more calm do best with Dixie - but we know from her previous owner that the dog must stand up to Dixie if she gets too wild for them. Dixie was too much for the senior lab who did nothing about Dixie's puppy antics but the older, smaller dog in the home put her in her place and she accepted his direction.  Hyper or head strong dogs overwhelm her.

We believe that her special person is out there somewhere that will help her grow!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly, a little shy. She is affectionate when she adjusts.

Tips and Tidbits: Dixie is a work in progress but she has potential!

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
