Biography

Truman was part of a group of dogs seized from a home. CPR partnered with a local shelter to help these animals. Truman is up to date on all of his shots, Heart worm negative, and neutered. Unfortunately, he also has a long standing fracture in his jaw with a large piece of mandible missing. If a reduction were to be done, a major deformity would result causing a severe wry mouth worse than it is now. If repair was to be attempted, the success of this is speculative, and would need an oral surgeon to evaluate.

Truman has a personality the size of a Great Dane. When he steps out into his yard, he wants everyone to know it. To a new face, he wants to seem like a scary junk yard dog, but to his people he knows, he's simply a cuddly little mess. Truman is more comfortable with women than men, but a patient man can still win his heart. With new people he will bark and if pressed too hard, he'll bite. However, with treats and time, he will learn to trust anyone, and become a new snuggle buddy! He is very affectionate with the people he knows, but he is also very jealous.

Truman does not like having his ears messed with! If you pull on his ears, Truman will show teeth and let you know he is not happy. Truman will chase away other dogs if they come too close while he is getting loved on. He always wants to be near his human friends, and will follow you everywhere. For a dog that tries to come across as scruffy, he is very affectionate. He is terrified on a leash, and freaks out as soon as he feels anything around his neck. He won't need professional grooming, but he will need someone very patient to bathe and brush him.

Truman absolutely loves toys. He is described by his caregivers as a kleptomaniac, frequently stealing things from his caregivers and hiding them. This boy is full of personality and mischief!

Truman is adoptable to the right home. The best home for Truman would be a quiet home with no children or other dogs. Someone who is patient, loving, and willing to understand where Truman came from. Knowing that he was in a hoarder situation, there are some behaviors he picked up to survive, and some of them will dissipate completely with time. Some, however, will always be a part of him, like a scar that won't heal. Truman will never be the dog that shows off his newest trick to your friends, but once he is familiar with them, he will be more than happy to con treats and belly rubs out of them.
