Shadow was an owner surrender due to resource guarding. Resource guarding - please note this is getting better especially since his neuter but a resource guarder is never "cured". They are managed. He bit his previous owner when she tried to move him away from his blanket and that was not the first time but it was the last and is what landed him here. Note - he is no longer allowed to have that blanket. Its removal from his life does not seem to have affected him at all.
This teeny dynamo is lots and lots of dog in a compact little body. He's cocky, self confident and easy to love and give love in return. He loves being picked up and cuddled but the big problem comes when you want to move and he does not. We're working on this and it may be a while before he re-earns lap time. He loves other dogs and enjoys playing and hanging out although he'll do some dominating if the other dogs allow it. He could be a companion dog to another confident dog or he would be fine as an only dog as long as someone is home at least 1/2 of the day.
Shadow would thrive with some basic obedience. He's bright and inquisitive and he picks up concepts and cues very easily. He had our schedule down in just a day. He just happens to be short and short dogs don't get seen much in obedience or agility. They are too busy being pampered. Shadow does NOT need to be pampered. He is an adult, mature dog. He needs to be treated like one, not like a baby.
Shadow needs an owner who understands that small does not mean easy. When he respects you he can be easy, very easy and he's affectionate and wants your time and love and to give back in return. But if you let him push you around, he will. We're looking for someone who really understands that is like to be the calm leader to a tiny tyrant - so he can relax and stop worrying about being the leader because he's got a good one in you. ADULT ONLY HOME
Shadow at one point had gotten so pushy and bossy he had to be sedation groomed. We've been able to groom him. He may not like it much, but he is not the one choosing whether to get it done, his leaders here are in charge of that.
Can’t have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) to help cover my monthly costs. If I have medical challenges I need even more! r having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support! Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate. Questions? Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
