My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Laura Jean was surrendered to a SC shelter by her owners who could no longer care for her. CPR pulled her from the SC shelter. Laura Jean was adopted in early 2019, but returned to rescue in December of 2022 when life changed for her owners and they could no longer care for her.
Special Needs: Laura Jean has chronic hair loss due to severe flea allergy that was never treated. She is being treated with flea prevention to keep her flea free and antiobiotics to help her skin heal. A grain free diet also helps her. Laura Jean had a broken jaw from a dog bite that had to be repaired. Our veterinarian fixed her up and she is healing wonderfully. Laura Jean will have a sensitive jaw for the rest of her life and require soft food.
What kind of home would be best for me: Laura Jean is a laid back and mellow girl who would like a quiet home and a lap to call her own. Laura Jean needs a home that understands that she has a weak jaw and will always require soft food and sensitivity around her face. This sexy senior girl is looking for a home that has lots of Fresh Pet, loves a long tongue that hangs out, and is looking for a quiet companion. If you have another quiet senior dog that likes to cuddle, Laura Jean would love a furry snuggle buddy.
What is my personality like: Laura Jean is as sweet as sugar. As long as she is in your lap and being loved she couldn't ask for more. She is extremely grateful for human affection and that's all she really looks forward to in life. Dogs, cats, big humans and small humans, she get along with them! Large dogs make her a little nervous. She's okay on a leash but would much rather be carried. She does not know any basic commands just yet but Laura love treats so she can learn! Please don't let her hair loss turn you away, she can make up for it in kisses.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly but a little shy.
Tips and Tidbits: Laura believed to be a pekingese or a pekingese mix. Her friends and herself were owner surrenders to a local SC shelter because their owners could not care for them any longer.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
