My Story

Date into Rescue:  3/23/2020

Reason for being in rescue:  owner release to Pender County Animal Shelter, cannot care for

Special Needs: This dog is lightly heartworm positive (HW+). He will be sent home with a year supply of heartworm medication. He is being treated with a method called the slow kill treatment. He takes a monthly Ivermectin based heartworm preventative and needs to be re-tested for heartworms every 6 months. Once he tests negative, then he can take any kind of heartworm preventative; he is not restricted to Ivermectin based only.

What kind of home would be best for me: We are seeking a home with an experienced dog owner and someone who is home more than they're away. Bosco needs a quiet home where he can get lots of loving. He will do well with another low-energy canine companion, but will also be content to be the only dog.

What is my personality like: Bosco is an independent dog, but he also loves attention. He is not the type to be romping and playing with other dogs. He would rather be curled on the couch with his family watching movies. Bosco is curious and likes to sniff around outside. He can be picky about his treats. He is clean in his crate and goes right inside when it is bedtime.  Bosco is an older guy with an independent mind. He knows who he is and what he wants. He is happy prancing about the yard sniffing the flowers. He is content curled on the couch with his family. Bosco is easy to please- give him loving when he wants it and let him have his freedom when he wants it. He wants the world to revolve around him and we don't blame him. Bosco does like to chew on toys. He does not tear them apart but will gently chew and protect them. He does not like having his toys taken away, so play time will need to be carefully monitored.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Shy but quickly warms up!

Tips and Tidbits: Bosco's estimated birthday is 3/23/12

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
