Reason for being in rescue: Found as a stray in the middle of the road.
Special Needs: Sophie has had numerous masses removed from her neck and legs. She has had a dental. She has a grade 3/6 heart murmur. She is vision impaired. She loves to sleep. She needs eye medications twice per day and she does not like them so it's a struggle but it's going to be done.
What kind of home would be best for me: Sophie is looking for a quiet retirement home. She does not expect walks. She does not expect activities. She wants to lay in the sun and sleep. Sophie wants a lap and a warm bed. She needs an experienced owner who will be comfortable cleaning her eyes daily, in spite of the fact that she doesn't like it. Sophie would be happiest with a quiet retired individual or couple.
What is my personality like: Sophie was found in the middle of the road by a caring citizen. Animal control was called and Sophie landed at the shelter. She was a medical mess, eligible only for rescue assistance. Carolina Poodle Rescue happily said yes to this gentle girl.
Sophie arrived with a myriad of medical issues. She had numerous masses on her neck, under her chin, and under her arms. She was in desperate need of a dental. She needed her eyes examined. Most of all, she needed compassionate care, a warm bed, and time. We have given her all of those.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Quiet and observing
Tips and Tidbits: Sophie's estimated birthday is 04/15/2011 per the shelter - which would make her 9 years old. Either she has had an exceedingly hard life or she is actually 12+. For whatever Sophie has endured in her past, it has not harmed her spirit. Sophie is a quiet senior girl.
Sophie's best days are spent sleeping in a soft bed, preferrably outside in the sun, strolling through the grass, and getting cuddles. She does require daily eye cleanings, which she does not enjoy. She prefers to be alone versus in the company of other dogs that are in her space. She does not at this point seek out companionship, either human or canine. She is happy in her own space.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
