Reason for being in rescue: Rocky was surrendered by his owners to a rural shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.
Special Needs: Rocky had surgery on 8/14/20 to remove a retained testicle that was cancerous. He also had a dental and lost 4 teeth. Rocky is a bit underweight. He also has hair loss and itchy skin from suspected flea allergies.
What kind of home would be best for me: Rocky is a little like a sour-patch kid - he is equal parts sweet and sour. He needs an experienced owner that is comfortable allowing Rocky to live on his terms. He is not a dog that you can pick up - he will snap at you. Rocky needs a quiet, low-traffic home where he can retire. He would prefer to be the only dog, but could live with other animals. Rocky will not be placed in a home with children; he will snap at them.
What is my personality like: Rocky is a senior guy who likes what he likes and doesn't like what he doesn't like. All things are on his terms. He is a quiet boy who prefers to spend most of his days relaxing in his crate on a soft bed with the door open. This allows him the freedom to come and go as he prefers, on his terms. Rocky loves food and he will work for food when he is in the mood. You just have to remember that he can go from very loving to spicy in a matter of seconds. When Rocky is not in the mood or doesn't want to do something, he will try to bite.
Rocky is an independent soul. He doesn't mind other dogs, but really prefers being alone. He is indifferent to cats, primarily ignoring their presence. He walks well on a leash and will follow your voice. His favorite things are fuzzy beds and quiet space.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Aloof and quiet
Tips and Tidbits: Rocky's estimated birthday is 7/31/2007
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
