My Story

Date into Rescue: 8/9/2020

Reason for being in rescue: owner release Surry County AC

Special Needs: Zeb Galen had a major medical workup on 8/18/20. He was neutered, had a dental, and had an ear hematoma repaired. Zeb's ears were rechecked on 9/22/20 and his infections have cleared. Our vet noted that he has permanent crimping in the right ear from an old hematoma.

What kind of home would be best for me: Zeb Galen is looking for an experienced owner with a quiet lifestyle. This is not a dog for a first time dog owner. Zeb has a very unknown history and what we know isn't all positive. The dog we have seen at our rescue is calm and almost aloof. He does not want to live with other dogs and cats are a no.

What is my personality like: Galen is laid back and has the face of someone thinking. Galen has a mysterious past we are unraveling. He was acquired by new owners off Craigslist. When they stopped on the side of the highway for a potty break, Galen escaped. As traffic sped by, the new owners tried to capture Galen and scared out of his mind, he bit the strangers trying to grab him. At that point, the new owners surrendered Galen to the shelter. During quarantine, the shelter called us saying Galen was shut down but not aggressive.

Galen has had positive interactions with his caregivers. He enjoys stretching outside in the sun. He does not mind other dogs. Galen would rather be by himself and his thoughts. He’s a scholar and a thinker. Still waters run deep. There is a lot to this dog and it would be very satisfying to see him blossom into his full potential.

How do I act when I first meet new people: A little timid

Tips and Tidbits: Zeb Galen's estimated birthday is 8/8/2014

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
