My Story

Date into Rescue: 6/14/2020

Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners

Special Needs: Rex was neutered and had a perineal hernia repaired on 8/14/20.

What kind of home would be best for me: Rex is a mature dog looking for a more quiet home. He needs a fenced yard that he can explore and gain familiarity with. Given his vision impairment, routine and a consistent environment are key for Rex. He does not require a ton of exercise, but needs someone home during the day to let him out regularly for potty breaks. Rex cannot live with cats or small dogs. He would be fine with mature children who are experienced with dogs.

What is my personality like: Rex was surrendered to rescue via our veterinary partner. He is a more senior dog at 9+ years old. Rex is vision impaired; we believe he may see some faint light. Given this, he has a hard time exploring new areas. Once he knows and is familiar with an area, his memory takes over and he is much more confident.

Rex has clearly been very loved, but had very little training. He has a gentle personality and is an all-around good natured dog. He does not know any commands. He is okay on a leash, but needs continued work. Rex far prefers a safely fenced yard that he can explore on his terms and sunbathe in to active walking activities.

Rex has always lived with 2 other dogs. He loves them, but they are not bonded. Rex is not good with other dogs besides his 2 BFFs. He absolutely despises cats and will bark and bark at them. Rex would love to be the king of someone's castle.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Curious and friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Rex's estimated birthday 6/14/2011

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
