My Story

Date into Rescue: 8/20/2020

Reason for being in rescue: Jewel was part of a hoarding case in rural North Carolina. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled her from the shelter.

Special Needs: Jewel had a dental polishing and a lumpectomy on a small wart on 9/1/20. She is missing hair on her back (as you see in her photos) from having her wart removed.

What kind of home would be best for me: Jewel is looking for a home with an experienced owner. She is not for a first time dog owner; she needs patience and time and commitment. Jewel has never lived in a home. Her new family will teach her what living in a home is all about. She must have another dog in the home that she can learn from. She would do best with someone who is home more than they are away. We do not know if Jewel has ever been exposed to children.

What is my personality like: Jewel has lived a very sad, isolated life for her first 10 years. She was seized as part of a hoarding case and spent over 2 years in a small animal shelter while the case made its way through the court system. As soon as Jewel and her siblings were "free" Carolina Poodle Rescue said yes to help these babies find their ways into forever homes.

Jewel is a very shy girl. She has lived most of her life in a pack with her sisters. They've had very little human contact, and absolutely no training in basic manners. For all this, Jewel has a gentle and calm demeanor. For all the humans that have failed her, Jewel still has the capacity to love and trust. She is quiet. She is clean in her crate. She has no aggression. She is simply shy and prefers the company of dogs to humans still.

Jewel is a beautiful girl with so much potential. Her easy spirit and desire to belong really stands out. Jewel gets so excited for feeding time. She plays happily with her sisters in her area and is doing well with the other dogs she has met. Jewel needs a family that sees her potential, that looks into her eyes and knows she wants to love you, and that says yes!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Very shy, but gentle

Tips and Tidbits: Jewel's estimated birthday is 12/12/2009

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
