My Story

Date into Rescue: 08/22/20

Reason for being in rescue: Owner release to a local shelter/can't care for

Special Needs:  Sweet Dixie beat every odd. Don't take our word for it - go check out her photo from the shelter. Dixie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. On 4/7/21 she had entropion surgery on her eye as well as a dental. Dixie is a senior girl. She has early signs of dementia.

What kind of home would be best for me: Dixie is an older girl looking for a retirement home. She'd be happy with other dogs or as the only dog. She is good with children, other dogs, and cats. This easy-going girl will give you her heart!

What is my personality like: Sweet Dixie. The most gentle soul you will meet. Neglected beyond belief, yet full of forgiveness and love for humans. This gentle soul is proof that animals are resilient. She is thriving in her foster home and ready for a home of her own.

When we first met Dixie she was hairless, shut down and defeated. Her foster mom has literally watched her grow in front of her eyes. It is amazing what love, compassion and time can do for a dog. Dixie has literally blossomed. She has become a spunky girl who enjoys fluffy beds, big meals, and all the love you can shower her in.. She is almost always right between your legs and wants to be where her people are. She is slowly learning to play with toys and embraces life with other dogs. Dixie is okay on a leash but prefers to just wander in a fenced yard on her own.

Dixie is incredibly food motivated. We cannot blame her! She will break into any food bin that she can find. In her foster home Dixie is learning house training, crate training, and basic manners. She could care less about commands and despises being in a crate when her humans are in the house. She is fine in her crate when she is at the rescue, but in a home she barks and digs and generally does everything she can to free herself.

Beautiful Dixie is looking for a retirement home. She is an older gal who will devote her heart to the family that gives her a chance!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Dixie's owner said  she is 10 years old, but we think she is older so our estimated birthday is 08/19/08.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
