My Story

Date into Rescue: 8/24/2020

Reason for being in rescue: Lowrider was found as a stray by a volunteer

Special Needs: Lowrider has limited to no use of his hind legs. His back sustained an injury,  likely sacroccylgeal, which is causing ataxia and knuckling and loss of continence. This injury cannot be readily identified on radiographs, though we can provide radiographs. Per our vet, not much can be done other than strengthening exercises. Lowrider was neutered and had a dental on 11/3/20.

What kind of home would be best for me: Lowrider is a special boy looking for a special home. His back legs have limited mobility. Given this, Lowrider needs a home where there are no stairs and lots of soft surfaces. His legs will rub raw if he drags them too much, particularly on hard surfaces. Belly Bands will be a must in Lowrider's forever home. He does have some incontinence and leaks urine.

Lowrider will be best as an only dog with a family that understands dogs with special needs. He could live happily with cats. He would love children as well. Lowrider does not need a fenced yard. He would love to go for strolls in a stroller. Lowrider is a poster child for living your best life despite the cards life deals you!

What is my personality like: Lowrider is a special boy. We don't know what life for Lowrider was like prior to being found by a volunteer, but it involved an injury. At some point in his history Lowrider sustained a significant back injury which is causing ataxia and knuckling in his rear legs and incontinence. Unfortunately there is not a lot that can be done other than strengthening exercises. It is highly doubtful Lowrider will ever recover mobility in his hind legs.

Despite his physical limitations, Lowrider is a happy boy who is full of personality. He is a sweet boy who loves sunbathing, belly rubs, and being where people are. Lowrider is living in a cottage with other dogs, but can be selective about who he likes. Lower mobility does not slow this boy down if he doesn't want someone in his space. Lowrider will urinate when he gets excited, including if you pick him up. Just be aware when you go to give him snuggles!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Lowrider's estimated birthday is 8/24/2013. This is a complete estimate based on his overall condition. We have no history on Lowrider so his birthday is purely an educated guess.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
