Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Retriever / Hound / Mixed (medium coat)
Weight: 15.4 lbs and growing. We expect Kevin will be between 30-40 lbs when full grown.
Height: 10 in and growing
Estimated Birthdate: 3/15/2020
Fence Needed: No
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue: owner surrender to volunteer
Special Needs: Kevin is a younger dog. He requires a home with another dog. He will not be placed in a home with a first time dog owner.
What kind of home would be best for me: Kevin is an under-socialized young dog. He will not be adopted to a home with first time dog owners. He will not be adopted into an environment where he is the only dog. Kevin needs a family or owner experienced with rescue and experienced with shy dogs. He must have another confident dog in the home. He would be better in a home without children, or with mature (over 13) children who are very experienced with dogs.
What is my personality like: Kevin and his brother Jason were surrendered to a volunteer. Their mom is feral (we are working on that) and their socialization during the first 6 months of their lives has been minimal at best. Kevin has come leaps and bounds since arriving at rescue in mid-August. He is young and curious and really wants to trust people. Though Kevin is timid, his trust can be earned with a consistent, gentle approach.
EVERYTHING is new for Kevin. He had never been on a leash until he arrived at rescue. He'd likely never slept in a crate. He's almost certainly never lived in a home. Kevin is working on crate training and when his stomach is settled is doing well with staying clean in his crate. Leashes still need a lot of work. Living in a home will be an entirely new experience.
Kevin is good with dogs of all sizes. He has grown up with a canine brother and really needs the confidence of another dog to interact with and learn from. Kevin does not need another shy dog; confident is key. Kevin is indifferent to cats and will be fine in a home with them.
Kevin has a lot to learn.... about toys, soft beds, warm food, and snuggles. His forever family will recognize this and help him learn the joys of being a companion. His caregivers describe him as a total sweetheart once he opens up!
How do I act when I first meet new people: Timid
Tips and Tidbits: Kevin's estimated birthday is 3/15/2020
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
