My Story

Date into Rescue: 9/17/2020 the first time, 3/30/21 the third time.  Yes, third time . We need to stop this merry go round.

Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners

Special Needs: Georgia is a sweetheart of a dachshund mix who is looking for an adult only home with people who want to have a best friend.  Please note Georgia will not be adopted to first time dog owners.  She is a lively, affectionate and strong willed girl who pulls on the leash when she is allowed to and will bark at strangers.  She will resource guard her owner unless the owner laughs and says "stop that - I do not need a 1 foot tall high guard dog" .....and then she's fine.  Be firm and she will love you unconditionally but she wants to know you are the pack leader and she will relax and be a dog.

What kind of home would be best for me: Georgia is an active dog looking for an active family. Our strong preference is a home that has experience with the dachshund breed. Georgia will not be adopted to a first time dog owner. She will not be adopted to a home with children under 12. She will not be adopted to a home with cats. She requires a home with experienced dog owners who are active. Georgia will be placed as an only dog. She has no desire to share her home with others .

What is my personality like: Georgia was lovingly surrendered by owners who knew she needed a different lifestyle than what they could offer. Georgia is a very sweet girl, but she is particular. While she is okay with other dogs, she does not want to live with them. She is okay with cats in her foster home, but has chased them in her previous home. She gets very attached to her person and will resource guard them. Georgia needs a strong owner that is familiar with the dachshund breed and can balance her desire for love and affection with her quirks.

Georgia has so many wonderful qualities. She is food motivated and will work for food. She rides well in a car. She walks beautifully on a leash. She loves to sniff around outside (probably part of her beagle genes). She loves meeting new people and is always up for an adventure. Georgia would be an awesome hiking and camping buddy and needs a home that is active.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Georgia's estimated birthday is 5/17/2014.  We have placed Georgia twice.  The first time was to a very sweet older woman who did not understand that when Georgia barked and snarled at other dogs on a walk, just tell her to stop it. She will.  Or keep her home.  The second owner thought he wanted a dog but, when he realized we were right about following the guidelines (no other dogs, firm no when needed) he also realized that perhaps a dog was not what he really wanted after all. This is Georgia's third time at the home game - and we're hoping the third time is the charm.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
