My Story

Date into Rescue: 9/22/2020

Reason for being in rescue: owner surrender

Special Needs: Sammy was neutered and had a dental with extractions on 9/30/20. He lost 6 teeth. Sammy is now ready for his forever home.

What kind of home would be best for me: Sammy requires a home with dog experience. He will do best in a quiet environment with another dog to spend time with. Sammy is fine with cats. He will not be adopted to a home with children under 12 OR to first time dog owners. Sammy will go home with a harness and trailing leash. We recommend he wears a trailing leash for the first 30 days as he builds trust.

What is my personality like: Sammy has lived his in entire 9-year life as a breeding dog. Given this, he is more comfortable in the company of dogs, but also still believes his job is to breed. He will mount and hump other dogs that he meets. This is not dominance; it is all he has ever known as a life.

Sammy is a very gentle spirit. He is timid when he meets you, but accepts affection and just melts into your body. Sammy does tremble a little when you pick him up, but quickly settles. Sammy needs to learn what it means to be a dog. He is crate trained. Leashes are new. Car rides are new. Playing with toys is unknown. He is slowly learning these things and building confidence in his foster home.

Sammy has so much potential. He is a sweet boy once he gets to know you. He is an absolutely stunning boy who attracts attention to everyone he meets. The transformation this boy will make over the next 6-12 months as he transitions from a breeding dog to a beloved pet is sure to be spectacular!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Shy

Tips and Tidbits: Sammy's birthday is 5/31/2011

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
