Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Poodle (Toy) (long coat)
Weight: 12 lbs
Height: 9 in
Estimated Birthdate: 9/22/2011
Fence Needed: No, but he would enjoy one
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners
Special Needs: Gill had a medical exam and dental on 10/23/20. He had 2 teeth removed and was cleared for adoption. Gill does have early signs of age-related cataracts.
What kind of home would be best for me: Gill is looking for his home. He misses the comfort of a quiet home with few to no other animals. Gill has lived with a small dog and was happy doing so. He is also indifferent to cats. Gill is looking for a quiet home. He needs an experienced owner that will give him space. He will not be adopted to a first time dog owner. Gill would love retirees that are home during the day and will take him for walks and car rides. We do not recommend Gill for a home with children or where children visit regularly.
What is my personality like: Gill has lived his entire life as one of two beloved companions of an elderly female. He has been loved beyond measure but his care dwindled some in the past few years as his owner's physical and mental health deteriorated. He is ready to find his retirement home with someone that understands strong males.
Gill is a great fella with a strong personality. He is very loving and will give his whole heart to you, but only if he's in the mood. He doesn't like to be picked up off his bed and will snap at you if you try to do so. He prefers to follow you around, wagging his tail happily and asking for affection. We suspect that some of Gill's snappiness may be mild pain in his back. He has been evaluated by our veterinarian and nothing was identified as a source, but like many of us as we age, we start to get some aches and pains in different parts of our body.
Now that Gill has had his dental and his mouth feels better, he loves to eat. He easily navigates up stairs but will not go down them. He loves to ride in the car and walks very well on a leash. He'd be great for someone looking to walk a half mile to a mile every day, but isn't up for 2+ mile hikes. After walks, Gill loves to nestle down into a warm fuzzy bed and take naps.
How do I act when I first meet new people:
Tips and Tidbits: Gill's estimated birthday is 9/22/2011
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
