Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Shih Tzu (medium coat)
Weight: 14 lbs - Goofy needs to lose at least 4 pounds
Height: 9 in
Estimated Birthdate: 10/11/2013
Fence Needed: No
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue: Goofy was surrendered by his owners to an animal shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.
Special Needs: Goofy had a dental on 11/10/20 and lost 4 teeth. Goofy has as eye condition called canine keratoconjunctivities sicca (aka KCS). In a nutshell, his eyes are dry and do not produce enough tears. Untreated, this is a painful condition for dogs which can lead to bulging and matting. Goofy's eye require diligent daily care. They must be washed and cleaned with an eye wash. Following this, they need Cyclosporine drops applied. CAREFUL ATTENTION TO EYE CARE IS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED FOR GOOFY.
What kind of home would be best for me: Goofy is a quiet boy looking for a lap! At an estimated 7 years young, Goofy has somewhat of an old soul. His ideal home is with retirees who have plenty of time to dote on this prince. He requires an owner with proven veterinary history managing a dog with medical needs. Goofy is good with other dogs and with cats, but would be happy as the only dog.
What is my personality like: Goofy's name suits him perfectly. Though his health has clearly been neglected, it has not diminished his happy-go-lucky personality. Goofy is as sweet a boy as you will meet with the silliest smile to match. He is not an overly active boy, preferring to lounge in the sun versus going for strolls.
Goofy needs ongoing medical care. His eyes require close attention daily. He is great for his medicine and gives you no challenges when cleaning his eyes and applying eye medicine. Clearly food is Goofy's love language. At 14.3 pounds he is obese. Goofy needs care weight management, physical activity, and lots of love. He'll reward you with all the snuggles your heart desires!
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly
Tips and Tidbits: Goofy's estimated birthday is 10/11/2013
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
