Reason for being in rescue: Peluche was surrendered by his owners to a shelter in North Carolina. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.
Special Needs: Peluche is a senior dog with senior dog aches and pains. He had a major dental on 11/10/20 and lost 24 teeth! He has lower cervical spinal disease and is currently receiving laser treatments to help with pain management. Peluche has a 3/6 heart murmor. He is vision impaired. He has clearly had ear challenges. Peluche's previous owners noted that he has had bad reactions to sedation, resulting in seizing and labored breathing.
What kind of home would be best for me: Peluche is a senior dog looking for a retirement home. He needs a quiet home that will be okay with a low energy dog. Peluche does have medical challenges as described and needs an owner experienced with senior dog care. He is not for a first time dog owner. Given his aches and pains we do not recommend Peluche for a home with children. Peluche will be happy living with other dogs and cats or as the only pet.
What is my personality like: Peluche is a sweet old man looking for his retirement home. He enjoys the simple things in life like slow days, long naps and sunbathing under warm blue skies. Peluche enjoys exploring our fenced property at the rescue and hanging out with his buddies. He is good with dogs of all sizes and totally indifferent to cats.
As noted above, Peluche has a number of medical challenges. The loss of 24 teeth during his recent dental means it's canned food for this boy. And boy does he love it! When Peluche wakes up from a nap he will cry from pain because he is stiff. Like humans, he needs to move and stretch out his back and neck muscles. Laser therapy is helping with this.
Peluche is a wonderful boy. He loves people and loves life (even when it is hard). We know there is a retirement home out there just looking for a precious angel to fill it!
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly
Tips and Tidbits: Peluche's estimated birthday is 0/15/2008
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
