My Story

Date into Rescue: 10/18/20

Reason for being in rescue: Sornyak was lovingly surrendered by his owners after challenges between Sornyak and the toddler made it apparent Sornyak needed a home without kids

Special Needs: Sornyak is a LOT of dog. He is not a good choice for a first time dog owner but if you know and love this breed and know how to manage a large, active, highly intelligent dog, this guy is for you.  Oh and Sornyak has a long, natural tail.  It's gorgeous!  (Sornyak has a bite history and will not be placed with children)

What kind of home would be best for me: Sornyak - he waits.  He is looking.  He is hoping. Sornyak is all woman's dog.  While men are okay, what Sornyak really wants is his best friend. His soul mate.  His constant companion. Sornyak is looking for an experienced standard poodle owner who understands and loves this breed for their intelligence and for their dedication to their one and only best person. He is fine with other dogs, but does not need another dog in the home. He is indifferent to cats. Surnyak needs an active life and a commitment to physical and mental exercise.

What is my personality like: Sornyak, also known as Yako or Yak Yak, is a large almost 3-year-old male standard poodle. We refer to him as the major general. He is regal, loyal, serious and wants order. He is eager to please and responds to basic commands (in Russian!). This boy is highly intelligent and wants to work. In the right environment we hope he will relax some and learn to just have fun, but if not he is happy being your faithful, reliable companion.

Yako has a lot of smarts and energy, but is equally happy to sit beside you on the couch and cuddle. He was a much-loved pet with a human brother the same age as him. Overall Yako is very tolerant, but living with small children is not for him. He would be fine with grandchildren that visit and have been trained in proper dog manners. (In other words - don't pull my ears or tail please and don't take my treats or toys away and we will get along just fine).

Yako's ideal home has lots of time for him. He needs plenty of physical and mental exercise. He is already a great dog. With structure and guidance, he will absolutely flourish. Training should be fun for everyone will need to be consistent and focused - Yako is highly intelligent and will figure out wants to entertain himself if boundaries aren't set. Yaho is very people-focused and is looking for a person, couple, or family to bond deeply with. This boy is gorgeous inside and out!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Sornyak's birthday is 01/21/18.  Sornyak is currently battling an ear infection and won't let us touch his ears.  He is going in this week to have them looked at by professionals. They do not have a heavy odor or discharge but obviously bother him so we want to get this straightened out.  He may be prone to ear infections.

Sornyak pulls on a leash when using any sort of neck collar. He walks beautifully on a front walk harness.  He has his own that will go with him.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
