My Story

Date into Rescue: 11/19/2020

Reason for being in rescue: Berto was seized as part of a local case. Carolina Poodle Rescue partnered with the shelter to help him and his brothers and sisters.

Special Needs: Berto was neutered on 11/23/20. He is now ready for his forever home.

What kind of home would be best for me: As adorable as he is, Berto is NOT for a first time dog owner. Berto is young, but has lived a lot of years in his short life. He requires an experienced owner that has patience and time to earn his trust. He would be happy as the only dog, or living with a confident dog that will teach him without overpowering him. Berto is not suited for a home with children. A more quiet routine is his speed.

What is my personality like: Berto was seized with a group of dogs as part of a local effort. We know very little about their past. Berto is a little shy, and doesn't fully understand what love means. Once he warms up, Berto wants to spend his entire day with his person. Berto comes from a home with lots of other dogs. He is absolutely fine in a pack. However, he'd be equally happy as the only dog.

Berto is a young dog with a ton of potential. His sassy smile screams bad to the bone, but his heart is made of gold. At the core, Berto is a young dog that lacks confidence. In a group of dogs, he gets picked on by more dominant dogs. He is slow to approach and absolutely does not want you to pick him up, but sit down and he jumps right into your lap for snuggles.

Berto loves to play. Toys have clearly been part of his past and he tosses toys around with enthusiasm. He also loves to snuggle in fuzzy blankets. We are certain this is the chihuahua in his DNA. He is crate trained and quiet for feeding. Like his siblings, Berto is really decompressing and learning and starting to come out of his shell. Underneath that somewhat timid shell is an absolute angel!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Timid and standoffish

Tips and Tidbits: Berto's estimated birthday is 11/13/2017

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
