My Story

Date into Rescue: 11/21/2020

Reason for being in rescue: Liza was surrendered by her owners to a rural NC shelter. CPR pulled her from the shelter.

Special Needs: Liza is blind. She has mature bilateral cateracts in both eyes. This does not slow her down! Liza also has a grade 3/6 heart murmur. Liza had a major dental on 12/18/20 and lost 8 teeth, 3 of which had to be drilled out. She will require regular dentals for the rest of her life.

What kind of home would be best for me: Liza is seeking a home where she will be the only dog. She can happily live with cats. She'd love to have someone home during the day, but it isn't a requirement. Liza needs a family that understands and is committed to proper dental care. She will require regular dentals for the rest of her life.

What is my personality like: We don't know much about what Liza's life was like before being surrendered to a rural shelter, but her luckiest day may have been the day she was surrendered. Liza arrived in rescue having been poorly cared for. She was under weight, blind, had terrible teeth, and has a heart murmur. Yet none of this slowed down her enthusiasm or happiness at being rescued.

Liza is FULL OF LIFE! A happier, more handi-capable girl you will not meet. Liza has likely been blind for some time. Her cataracts are very advanced. She has adjusted well and easily navigates new environments. Stairs are no issue for this princess, and she'll happily jump onto a piece of furniture to get to you. Liza loves people and wants to be where her family is. She is independent and doesn't require someone with her 24 hours a day. Liza loves snuggling in a soft bed during the day and snuggling up to her people under the sheets at night.

Liza would prefer to be the only dog. She is living in a foster home with other dogs, but their sudden movements make her nervous. And when she is nervous she will air snap in fear. Her foster mom believes a home with no other dogs will be best suited to Liza's personality and allow her to really shine. She is fine with cats. Liza rides well in the car.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Liza's estimated birthday is 11/21/2014

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
