My Story

Date into Rescue: 1/27/2021

Reason for being in rescue: owner passed away

Special Needs: Charlie has been neutered, is up to date on all vaccines, and is heartworm negative. He is ready for her forever home.

What kind of home would be best for me: Charlie's entire life has been spent living in a home with small and large dogs, cats, and birds. He is used to a pack and most comfortable in this setting. His ideal home has another dog for interaction and socialization. He is indifferent to cats and has lived with them. He has never lived with children. Charlie is very timid and shut down at rescue. We know there is a much more confident dog just waiting for a family to see his potential and help him shine!

What is my personality like: Charlie is a calm, gentle soul. Rescue life is very stressful to him so we haven't seen much of this sweet boy's personality. We do know that he loved his owner very much, is usually a very social dog, and generally loves people. When he is with someone he knows you will see him wag his entire body and his whole demeanor changes. We cannot imagine the trauma of losing your mom so unexpectedly. Charlie's heart definitely needs time to heal.

Charlie loves other dogs, both big and small. He's always lived as part of a pack where he had lots of four-legged companions and is happiest in this type of setting. Charlie's crate is his safe place. Whether he is scared or tired or just nervous, the crate is his comfort. He will need a home that offers a crate, especially as he transitions into another new environment.

Moving into a new home is going to be exciting but scary for Charlie. He WILL need an adjustment period. Charlie's forever home must have experience with rescue dogs. He'll need to wear a long leash always attached to him for the first week until he is comfortable. He would be ideal for an active, retired couple that has plenty of experience and time to share in helping this boy regain his confidence and be the best version of himself.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Shy at first, but offer me some treats and I will be your best friend

Tips and Tidbits: Charlie's estimated birthday is 9/21/2017

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
