My Story
Reason for being in rescue: Macey was removed from her breeder by animal control and taken to a shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled her from the shelter.
Special Needs: Macey was spayed and had a dental on 2/25/21. She is up to date on all vaccines and heartworm negative. She also had a dew claw removed on 2/24/21.
What kind of home would be best for me: Macey is a project. She's lived her entire life with a breeder prior to arriving in rescue in February 2021. She is great with other dogs and requires a home with at least one other large, confident dog for her to play with and learn from. She is working really hard on learning to trust humans, but it will take an experienced, patient owner to continue the work. Macey is not for a first time dog owner. She is not for a home with young children. Too much activity and too many new faces are too much for this girl.
Macey is very active and needs an active home. She would benefit from one-on-one training at home and, as she builds confidence, would make a great hiking buddy. Macey does not require someone home during the day, but does need breaks during the day. Macey is an all-around great dog looking for a home with an experienced rescuer who has patience, time, and another large, active dog for her to learn from.
What is my personality like: Macey is a very, very shy girl. Removed from her breeder by animal control, we are unsure how much (if any) socialization she had prior to arriving in rescue. Not surprisingly, Macey adores dogs and loves to play with canine companions. Humans, however, are still very new and very curious. She is intrigued by people and always so excited to see her caregivers, but is very wary. You can tell that this beautiful girl with the heart of gold is so eager to build trust and be loved as a companion.
Macey hast lots of energy. She plays so well in her play groups at the rescue. She is always the first one out and one of the last ones in on sunny days. Her body is constantly wiggling and moving with excitement when she is among her friends. Macey adores food and has no aggression at all toward her food. She shares a space with her buddies Annie and Dixie and they sometimes even share a bowl.
Macey has a lot of potential and has come a long way since being in rescue. She is very food motivated so that will make training easier in addition to her just being naturally smart. Her leash walking isn't terrible and has improved greatly, she does still tend to try to back out or thrash a bit if she thinks things are moving too fast and she gets scared. Here her caregivers have been committed to hand feeding her her food and that has worked wonders in teaching her humans are friends and to gain her trust. Though nervous she is a super sweet girl looking for a home dedicated to her and looking for that rewarding experience of gaining the trust and love of a dog that needs them.
It has been said that the best gifts are worth the wait. Beautiful Macey is going to be a project, but will be so worth the effort to earn her trust and teach her to love!
How do I act when I first meet new people: Very timid
Tips and Tidbits: Macey's estimated birthday is 2/19/2016
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
