My Story

Date into Rescue: 3/6/2021

Reason for being in rescue: Tootles was surrendered by her owners to a NC shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled her from the shelter.

Special Needs: Tootles is spayed, up to date on all vaccines, and heartworm negative. She had a serious dental on 3/17/21 and lost 21 teeth. Tootles is a senior dog. She is overweight and her knees are mildly compromised. Weight loss will help with her knees. On 6/1/21 Tootles was tested for Cushings disease. Her normal resting cortisol test ruled out this disease for now. Tootles is currently battling conjunctivitis in her eyes and is on a topical medicine.

What kind of home would be best for me: Tootles is a quiet, senior girl looking for her retirement home. She is good with other small, calm dogs or will be happy as the only dog in your heart. She is good with cats, mostly indifferent to them. Tootles loves everyone and would be great with children or grandchildren visiting the home. What she wants is her family. She wants to sit with you on the couch. She wants to go for short strolls. She wants to sleep in the bed. If you cannot offer her these, she is not your dog. Tootles is looking for a home where someone is home during the day - either retired or work from home. She wants to be with people.

What is my personality like: Precious Tootles was surrendered by her owners to a shelter because she was too old and they wanted her euthanized. Thankfully caring shelter workers recognize that age is just a number and reached out to rescues for help. One of our intake coordinators saw this beautiful silver senior princess and said yes, absolutely.

At 13 years young, Tootles is ready for retirement. The heartbreaking part of her story is that she has clearly been very loved and simply wants that. Wherever people are, Tootles wants to be. She will follow you to the moon and back and give you her entire home. Tootles is not looking to run marathons. She really isn't even up for long walks. But slow strolls or rides in a stroller would make this girl exceptionally happy. She enjoys resting in quiet beds near to you, or on your lap or on the couch beside you.

Tootles hates being isolated. We imagine that being abandoned by your family after 13 years will have this impact. She is okay in a crate, but it really isn't needed. This is a sit on the couch, sleep in the bed sort of girl. Tootles walks well on a leash, focused on staying right beside you. She enjoys the company of other calm dogs and finds their antics amusing. She loves to cuddle and snuggle.

Beautiful girl - check. Quiet lap princess - check. Tootles is ready to be your heart dog!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Tootles' estimated birthday is 3/6/2008

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
