Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat)
Weight: 10 lb
Estimated Birthdate: 3/6/2013
Fence Needed: No
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Adoption Fee:$1 I am special
Reason for being in rescue: owner surrendered to Spartanburg vet who reached out to CPR to rehome Chico.
Special Needs: Chico has diabetes from a life of eating food that was not good for him and many years of obesity. Though he has now slimmed down to his trim figure of 10 lbs from his high weight of 21 lbs, he is still, and will always be, insulin dependent and must stay on a restricted diet of Holistic Select Lamb (which can be purchased online for 30 cents per day) with no tidbits or extras. If his diet is followed carefully, he only needs one dose of insulin per day (3 units at $1.02)
What kind of home would be best for me: We are seeking a home with an experienced dog owner, as he needs structure and leadership with his diet and medication regime. Chico’s family will need to be home more than they are away, take him to work with them or arrange a fun doggie daycare. He would like to be an only dog or have a dog buddy that is small to medium in size. His family could have children over 10, be single or a couple. Chico adapts well to any environment. He would love to go on a long walk with you, a camping trip, or snuggle on the couch for movie night. Chico will be happy and at home wherever you choose to be.
What is my personality like: This lovable long hair chihuahua is a 10 lb bundle of sweetness. He wants nothing more than to be with people, giving and receiving kisses and hugs. He has never met a stranger. Chico likes other dogs. His reaction to cats is unknown. This 10 lb baby likes to ride in the car, walks well on a leash, barks very little, and is a confident, smart little dog. His new family will need to be firm with Chico about food. He will make every attempt to receive treats. He does not understand that treats are bad for him and could make him very sick. Chico will also need frequent potty breaks to be mishap free in the home. He is crate trained and comfortable there at night, but would love to snuggle with you in the human bed, if you will allow. Chico is an extra good boy.
Tips and Tidbits: Chico's birthday is estimated to be 3/6/2013.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
