Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat)
Weight: 9.8 lbs
Height: 12 in
Estimated Birthdate: 11/20/2015
Fence Needed: Yes - Madonna has no experience on leash. She needs a safe place for potty needs while she is learning this important skill.
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue: Breeder retired
Special Needs: Madonna is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. On 4/28/21 she had a dental and lost 2 teeth. Our vet also noted that Madonna is slightly underweight.
What kind of home would be best for me: Madonna is ready for a home who understands all things Yorkie! Madonna is used to being the queen of the Yorkies and expects this to continue in her new home. Madonna enjoys the company of others as long as they know who is in charge. She will enjoy life with or without a dog in the home. A yard for Madonna to explore the nooks and crannies would be a great energy release for her. A child free home is recommended.
What is my personality like: Madonna has a strong, determined nature. She lives life headstrong and will let you know what her preferences are in the moment (some may call this moody). While Madonna is independent, she is loving and will let you know if she wants affection. She may or may not want to be held often, but is happy to be a sidekick or just in the same room as you. Please note you may not see this side of Madonna at first. She can hold back when she meets new people. A home without a lot of traffic and visitors is going to be better for her.
How do I act when I first meet new people: At times she may not be interested in meeting anyone or she will be the first one in line for attention. We can't tell which she will be from day to day. In a home, with routine and consistency, we believe she will eventually be friendly all the time. Madonna really just wants to show off and take the room. After that, she's busy!
Tips and Tidbits: Madonna's birthday is 11/20/2015. When Madonna arrived, she was extremely terrified and avoided all interactions with her caregivers. As she transitions into her home, be cautious for triggers and flight risk. Madonna is not a match for a first time dog owner. She needs someone who knows and loves this breed with all their quirks and all their positives. The other dog in the home needs to be confident and preferably the same size or even a bit bigger than Madonna.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
