Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Poodle (Toy) (long coat)
Weight: 7 lbs
Height: 14 in
Estimated Birthdate: 6/29/2017
Fence Needed: No, but she would love one
Location: Foster Home in Rocky Mount, NC
Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners
Special Needs: Sophie is spayed, up to date on all vaccines, and heartworm negative. Sophie is sensitive about her rear legs and does not like to be touched on the base of her spine or her rear legs. We've had her legs evaluated by a vet and the vet has noted no abnormalities in her legs. Vet records will be provided. Sophie did have impacted anal glands which were expressed. This may have been contributing to the pain in her rear.
What kind of home would be best for me: Sophie is a beautiful, young girl looking for an experienced owner. Her ideal home is female only. Sophie is a project. It takes time and patience to earn her trust. She will not trust you when she first meets you, and likely won't pay you much attention. Sophie's ideal home has someone home during the day and is quiet. She does not want a lot of visitors or strangers in her place. Sleeping in the bed is non-negotiable for Sophie. If you are an experienced owner that has rescued shy dogs, wants a go-everywhere companion, and live a quiet lifestyle, Sophie would love to be your girl.
What is my personality like: Sophie was surrendered by her owner who recognized that her busy lifestyle was not fair to a young dog. Sophie has been very loved, but hasn't been overly socialized. She is timid in new situations and with new people, but warms up once she gets to know you. With consistent socialization and lots of interaction Sophie will blossom into the best version of herself.
Sophie is a velcro dog. She wants her person, and very strongly prefers for that person to be female. Once she knows and trusts you, Sophie is your dog. She wants to be snuggled and cuddled and carried around. Sophie would love a family that will take her out on errands, on vacations, and out with friends. She is a quiet baby looking for a quiet home.
As noted above, Sophie is sensitive about her rear legs. Veterinary exam (including radiographs, copies of which will be required) found nothing significantly wrong. Sophie will growl if you pull her legs or touch her hind area too hard.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Shy at first, but warms up quickly
Tips and Tidbits: Sophie's birthday is 06/29/2017
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
