My Story

Date into Rescue: 3/29/2021

Reason for being in rescue: owner release

Special Needs: Louis is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. Louis does not like men. At all. He requires a home with only women.

What kind of home would be best for me: Louis G Brooks is a cute, young dog looking for a very specific home. First and foremost, Louis will only be adopted to a home with women. He absolutely does not like men and cannot live with them. He does not even want to see them. Second, Louis needs boundaries and consistency. He has a history of behavioral challenges and needs a strong, experienced owner that will be alpha and manage him with positive reinforcement. Third, Louis wants to be the only dog. He could live with another calm dog or a cat, but really wants to be your only. And finally, no children. Louis can be unpredictable with his behaviors. He is not suited for a lifestyle where there are children.

What is my personality like: Louis has had a lot of life changes for a young dog. He was originally turned in to a local shelter by his owners with a note that he wouldn't breed. As you can imagine with this face, he was quickly pulled for rescue. However, Louis quickly began displaying some anger issues that only escalated with men. The foster home was unable to manage his behavior but didn't want to return him to a shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue saw him on a rehoming site, knew he needed time and experience, and said yes to this little cutie with the big attitude.

First and foremost, Louis likes women. He does not enjoy the presence of men, will make it known, and has a history of aggression toward men. We have observed him growl and snap in the presence of our most experienced, loving male caregivers. Louis has made his preferences known and we respect those. With his female caregivers, Louis acts like a happy puppy with no personality quirks at all. Hey, we all have our deamons we keep to ourselves!

Louis bonds hard and fast to a women. He adores his lead caregiver and will do anything for her. He walks well on a leash, does well with the other dogs in his cottage, and enjoys snuggles and praise. He loves toys and happily rests in his crate with all of his "babies". Louis will likely never be a dog you take to public places or dog parks. He wants his woman and his woman only. He will give that lucky woman his entire heart!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly as long as you are female

Tips and Tidbits: Louis's estimated birthday is 3/29/2019

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
