My Story

Date into Rescue: 5/4/2021

Reason for being in rescue: Dixie was purchased from her breeder as a puppy and for some reason returned. When the breeder needed to release some adults, Dixie came on with her mom Nikka Rue

Special Needs:

What kind of home would be best for me:   Dixie can be shy upon meeting and has known her mother her entire life, it takes her several minutes to get comfortable with a new dog; she submits to the dog fast and will wait until the other dog engages to play first.  In a perfect world, Dixie will go with her mom but if she does not, we think as long as she has another happy, large and gregarious dog to follow she will be fine.

Dixie Lou loves to splash around in the kiddie pool and would be an awesome hiking partner

Dixie Lou is a wonderful beautiful soul looking for her very own home.

What is my personality like: Dixie Lou has a heart of gold, she is sweet and even tempered. She is very submissive with other dogs and will thrive best with another large confident dog. She can be playful and laid back, she’s the best of both worlds.

Currently Dixie Lou has a prey drive, as of right now I would not place her with a small dog or a cat, but would recommend training to work on this behavior  She has never taken this to the level where this behavior isn’t correctable but she is very large and that could be a big problem. Best to keep her with animal buddies her own size.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Shy but sweet

Tips and Tidbits: Birthdate 12/25/2019 - a Christmas baby!  Dixie is a second generation doodle .  Her mother is 1/2 great dane and 1/2 standard poodle.  Her father was a purebred standard poodle. She sheds lightly. She would not be hypoallergenic but will be low shed and should require regular grooming a lot less than a poodle.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
