Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Poodle (Standard) / Great Dane / Mixed (long coat)
Weight: 91 lb
Height: 29 in
Estimated Birthdate: 3/29/2017
Fence Needed: Yes without exception
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue: Nikka was retired by her breeder. Her daughter, Dixie Lou, is also up for adoption. Dixie was placed by her breeder but came back to her so both girls came to CPR. They are very close. We are not requiring that they go together but if your looking for two big, fuzzy girls they would love to be together.
Special Needs: Nikka had a fractured tooth which we have had removed. She also has some scabbing on her ear tips which is getting better. Some sort of allergic reaction to something environmental that is not here is our best guess.
What kind of home would be best for me: Nikka's best home will be one that understands and is just crazy about giant breeds - especially a giant breed combined with a highly intelligent intuitive retriever breed. She is crazy smart. She is 1/2 Great Dane and 1/2 standard poodle, first generation. She does shed so she can not go to a home that needs hypoallergenic.
What is my personality like: Nikka is a big girl with so very much love to give. You can often find her hugging her caregivers. Once you've been hugged by Nikka, you understand what hugging is really all about. Personal space is not in her vocabulary. She’s a big girl with a big heart.
She does well with large dogs but has a prey drive with small dogs and cats. She will not be placed in homes with other small, fuzzy animals. She needs work on "leave it." She is not aggressive. She is being what her DNA says to be- a big, fuzzy retriever.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Nikka loves everybody.
Tips and Tidbits: Birthdate is 3/29/2017. Nikka is a big, big and did I say big girl. She has not had any training that we can tell and at this size, she needs to learn her manners. Your first step with Nikka will be obedience training. Nikka has tons of puppy energy even though she is an adult and she needs help learning her best manners to be a fabulous pet.
Nikka will make an excellent cuddle buddy! She’s so sweet and ready to love someone to the fullest extent! She has no idea how big she really is.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
