Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Poodle (Standard) (medium coat)
Weight: 62 lbs
Height: 24 in
Estimated Birthdate: 8/19/2013
Fence Needed: Yes
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue:
Special Needs: Jack is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. Jack arrived in rescue with suspected knee and/or hip issues. After radiographs, it was confirmed he has some light muscle atrophy in his rear left leg but no significant injury. Radiographs will be provided to his adopter. Though Jack Flash's owners stated he is a standard poodle, we suspect he may be a doodle.
What kind of home would be best for me: Jack Flash has a lot of energy for an 8-year-old dog. He is incredibly strong and has limited leash experience. He needs a home committed to daily exercise and positive reinforcement training. Jack is not ready for long runs or hikes yet. He is building strength in his rear leg and requires short lead walks through October 2021. Jack Flash is good with other confident dogs. He has not been tested with cats yet. Though Jack Flash's owners stated he is a standard poodle, we suspect he may be a doodle.
What is my personality like: Jack Flash arrived in rescue having lived much of his life confined to a smaller space. His groomer and owner suspected back or hip issues, or even a broken pelvis. Thankfully, Jack just needed more space and exercise. He does have some mild atrophy in his hind left leg, but is building strength every day.
For 8 years old, Jack is active and strong. This boy loves people and greets you with enthusiasm. He does not realize his size or strength. As much as Jack loves to walk and would love to run, he needs to be walked on a short lead through October to allow his hind legs to continue to build muscle and strength.
Jack has a zest for life that is contagious. He will bark from behind a fence, but once he is out of a fence on a lead or you are inside the fence with him, it is all smiles and hugs for this boy. Jack needs an owner that will work with him on leash manners and basic commands. He has had little exposure to both. He is smart and eager and food motivated, all of which will make training easier.
Jack is a great boy ready to live his great life!
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly
Tips and Tidbits: Jack's owners stated he is 8 years old at the time of surrender. We celebrate his birthday as 8/19/2013.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
