Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Golden Retriever / Poodle (Standard) / Mixed (long coat)
Weight: 35 lbs and growing. Boggie will likely be 40-45 pounds when full grown.
Height: 20 in
Estimated Birthdate: 10/18/2020
Fence Needed: Yes
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners
Special Needs: Boggie is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. It should be noted that while Boggie was being neutered, he became bradycardic 5 minutes into anesthesia but responded well to Altropine. His future vet will want this information when considering any future procedures that require anesthesia.
What kind of home would be best for me: Boggie is a young, active dog who needs experience and training. He is not well suited for a home with children. Boggie is very smart and needs daily mental and physical activity. This is not a couch potato. He would be a great running partner or hiking partner. Boggie's new owners must be committed to a positive reinforcement training program with him. He has had little training or socialization in his first 10 months and it shows. He has a ton of potential and will blossom in an experienced, active home.
What is my personality like: Boggie was purchased as a puppy. He spent his first months living in a home with a fenced yard and lots of space to run. His family retired and decided to transition to RV living. Sadly, they found that Boggie needed more exercise and access to open fenced spaces to run than this lifestyle would afford. They reached out to rescue to help him find a home that would be a better match.
Boogie is vey happy and independent thinking boy with a lot to give to the world around him. He is very active and needs a lot of physical and mental stimulation. He will pull on a leash but this is a behavior that we have found can easily be managed with an easy walk harness. Boogie needs an experienced home that can work with him and be patient. He needs time to decompress and get comfortable with his surroundings. When Boogie becomes overwhelmed he can become reactive and would be prone to bite if pushed too far. We are seeking a home that understands that this behavior is fear related and can give Boogie the boundaries he needs.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly
Tips and Tidbits: Boggie's birthday is 10/18/2020
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
