My Story

Date into Rescue: 09/18/2021

Reason for being in rescue: Sugar Bear was surrendered by owners to a NC shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the shelter.

Special Needs: Sugar Bear is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. Sugar Bear was a medical mess when he arrived in rescue. He had hair wrapped around his teeth, rendering him almost unable to eat. He had a major dental on 09/29/2021 and lost 14 teeth. His remaining teeth were polished. Sugar Bear was also hospitalized and treated for pancreatitis. Sugar Bear has dry skin, some vision loss, and a grade 4/6 heart murmur. He is currently on enalapril 2.5 mg twice/day and vetmedin 1.25 mg twice daily.

What kind of home would be best for me: Sugar Bear is looking for a home where someone is home all day and that wants to take him with you when you leave. This boy loves big and fast. He needs to have you in sight at all times and will bark if he cannot find you. Sugar Bear is not suited for apartment or condo living. This tiny body has some serious lungs and he isn't afraid to use them. Sugar Bear would be great for retiree(s) who are looking for a best friend. He'll follow you to the ends of the world and reward you with his unconditional love!

What is my personality like: Sugar Bear never meets a stranger. For a dog who has clearly had very poor care for the majority of his life, he trusts and loves completely. Do not let Sugar Bear's age fool you - this boy is full of personality and life. He is an absolute velcro dog that wants to be where you are at all times. He's great with other dogs and with cats, but would also be totally happy as your only boy.

Sugar and spice and all things nice - that's what Sugar Bear is made of!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Sugar Bear's birthday is 08/24/2008

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
