Meet An Adoptable Dog
Breed: Hound / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)
Weight: 5.6 lbs and growing. We expect Lake will be between 35-45 pounds when full grown.
Height: 9 in
Estimated Birthdate: 7/30/2021
Fence Needed: No
Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Reason for being in rescue: Lake was born to a feral mom who abandoned her at 2 days old. She has been raised by one of our caregivers.
Special Needs: Lake is a young dog. She is up to date on all vaccines for her age. Due to her size and age, she will not be spayed prior to adoption. Adopting Lake will require you to sign a contract committed to spaying her at your cost within 6 months. Lake requires a home with another dog.
What kind of home would be best for me: Lake is a young dog looking for an experienced home. She requires another dog in the home to learn from. She is good with dogs of all sizes and cats. She must be continuously socialized and will need formal, positive reinforcement training as she grows to be the best version of herself. Lake would be happy with children over 8. If you are not home during the day, you will need a plan to ensure she gets potty breaks every 2-3 hours.
What is my personality like: Lake was born to a feral colony. She was only two days old when her mom decided to abandon her family, she was so ridden with fear that she couldn't take care of her babies. Luckily enough we were able to take the remaining pups and bottle feed them. Lake fought so very hard to make it till now and is growing stronger every day.
Lake is not as confident as her brother. Loud and overstimulating environments overwhelm her and she will seek out a place to hide. She will need a home to ensure she is always well socialized with both people and other animals. We have learned that coming from a feral background often affects the puppies later on in life as well unless they are continually well socialized and experience many new experiences over the course of their lifetime.
Lake needs a home where someone is home often enough to provide sufficient potty breaks to ensure house training is a fast and easy process. It is recommended that she gets a chance to go outside every 2 hours at this age.
Lake needs a home that has another dog to learn from. Preferably a dog no larger than 50 pounds as we expect Lake to be about 35-45 pounds. She currently lives in a foster home with large dogs and does amazing with them. She has also done well with small dogs and cats.
Ensuring that Lake continues to grow up well with small dogs and cats would mean she lives home provides a stable environment for her and her new companions.
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly, but a little timid if the environment or voices are loud
Tips and Tidbits: Emerson's birthday is 07/30/2021
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
