My Story

Date into Rescue: 10/15/2021

Reason for being in rescue: Dude's owners were divorcing and could not take the dogs.

Special Needs:  Dude had all of his teeth extracted due to severe and advanced periodontal disease.  He is still learning to eat well with a mouth with no teeth.  He will get it, but it is a skill that takes time.  He goes in for a recheck with his vet on 11/23 and can be adopted after his clearance on that date. Dude was badly matted and had to be groomed very short.  It is just hair and it will grow back.

What kind of home would be best for me: Dude needs a quiet home with a lot of understanding and someone who will help him gain his confidence back and learn how beautiful the world can be.

What is my personality like: Dude is a very loving and sweet dog. He has lots of affection and love to give to people. He can be timid and shy at first and needs work on building up the trust to come out of his shell. Currently he is on a three times a day meal plan to pick up his weight. He has no teeth and needs soft food (his caregivers have noted that he loves cheese). When he trusts a person he will become their lap dog. He has some energy in there we know but for the most part he is a mellow man.

Dude is laid back and enjoys anything fuzzy, especially blankets and beds! He is shy yet curious. He takes a lot of time and patience for him to be comfortable. He enjoys all fuzzy beds and soft blankets. pretty much your perfect cuddle bug! He does fine in a crate but you let him find something more comfortable and he’ll most definitely choose it. He does enjoy sitting out in the sun and walking around outside when it’s warm. He did get a full mouth extraction so he needs to be on soft food. He can be picky but you will know when he loves it! Overall Dude is looking for a forever home full of fuzzy beds and cuddles. He would do well with dogs and cats as long as they were not bullies toward him. He would do best without kids in the home due to his timid nature.

How do I act when I first meet new people:  Very timid at first - it takes time

Tips and Tidbits: (10/15/2017 is our estimated birthdate.  We were told he was about 4 but with all the teeth that had to be extracted, he looks and acts much older.  We're hoping in his forever home, once he is healed and has his confidence back, you'll see a more active dog. Right now, Dude prefers to be quiet.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
