My Story

Date into Rescue: 12/9/2021

Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners

Special Needs: Merlin is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. On 12/23/2021 Merlin had a dental polishing. He also had a senior bloodwork panel which shows no major abnormalities.

What kind of home would be best for me: Merlin is a big teddy bear looking for a retirement home. At 12 years young, Merlin is far past his days of being overly active. What he offers is impeccable manners, a gentle demeanor, and the biggest heart. Merlin is great with dogs of all sizes. He is too curious about cats and won't be placed in a home where there are cats. Kids would be great with Merlin as well. If you're looking for a mature doodle to enjoy daily strolls and lots of snuggles with, Merlin would love to be your boy!

What is my personality like: Merlin arrived in rescue when his owners could no longer care for him. He reminds his caregivers of a big woolly mammoth - he is a very big doodle! Merlin has a sweet and gentle personality despite his size.

Merlin is looking for a retirement home. At 12 years old he's already experienced most everything a dog can. He is ready to kick back and hang out lounging around the house. While he is an older guy, Merlin still has a lot of pep in his step. He would love to go on walks and travel with his person.

Merlin does well with big and small dogs, he would be content with or without another dog. At this time we do not recommend cats for Merlin - he is too interested in barking at our resident cat and gave her quite the startle. Merlin walks beautifully on the leash and knows a few basic tricks. He has very good manners!

Merlin would love a family of his own to start the new year. Anyone that takes home this sweet giant will need to love Merlin to the fullest, as he is going to love his new family to the fullest as well.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Merlin's owners stated he is 11 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 1/15/2010.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
