My Story

Date into Rescue: 12/31/2021

Reason for being in rescue: stray, owner release

Special Needs:  Buddy is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and heart worm negative. ON 1/5/22 he had a dental polishing. Buddy has a permanent right side head tilt. He was seen by a neurologist in 12/2021 who confirmed suspected vestibular disease. The only way to fully confirm is an MRI, which we have elected not to do as it will not change our current care plan and the head tilt does not appear to cause Buddy any distress or pain.  Please note Buddy still has ear infections - and he hates to have his ears cleaned and will fight you but it has to be done.  Full medical records will be provided.

What kind of home would be best for me: We are seeking a home with an experienced dog owner - you need to have a basic grasp of veterinary medicine, what a neurological dog means and that he will always be different. I would prefer a rescuer who knows that special and different can be wonderful but it takes work to make that happen.  Buddy is happy in the presence of other dogs but he does not need them.  He is different and he knows it.

What is my personality like: Buddy is a very unique little guy that has a lot of love to give! He is active and likes to go on adventures or play with his friends. He gets along with other dogs very well but he doesn’t really want an overly active dog that wants to play with him all the time. Buddy loves his food and is highly food motivated.

Buddy has a dramatic flare and will let someone know quickly when he doesn’t like what is happening by using his voice. After living on the streets, we can't blame him for reminding people and other animals what he likes and doesn't like. He is clearly a loving little fighter just looking to fill someone's heart.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Buddy was found as a stray so we have no history on him. We celebrate his birthday as 12/31/2019 .  Buddy is not house trained and may never be.  He will be sent home with a belly band.  He marks everything and is proud of it.  He is clean in his crate - with a lot of diligence and a lot of positive reinforcement you may redirect this behavior but it will be a challenge.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
