My Story

Date into Rescue: 1/15/2022

Reason for being in rescue: owner release

Special Needs: Peter is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. Peter has heartworms and was treated on 06/14/2022. The protocol we use is two-fold. We do a pre-treat people where the dog takes doxycycline (an antibiotic) for at least 30 days. During this time the dog is also on regular heartworm prevention. The drug doxycycline weakens the adult heartworms. We then used a drug called diroban (a generic immiticide) to kill the adult heartworms. The dogs are given 2 injections of diroban 24 hours apart. They are then under strict rest protocols for 5 weeks - mostly cage rest with limited leash walks each day. They go in for a follow-up vet visit after their resting period.

What kind of home would be best for me: Peter is a young, active dog looking for his forever home. Surrendered by his owners to a shelter, he is looking for stability. Peter would love another young, small, active dog in the home, but it is not a requirement. Large dogs make him nervous. Peter wants to be with his people; his ideal home has someone home during the day (work from home, home school, active retirees, etc.).

What is my personality like: Peter is for the most part a young, playful, happy-go-lucky guy. He likes his play buddies to be around the same age and energy as him. No senior dogs as his energy can be too much for them. Peter can be a tad nervous in new situations where he feels overwhelmed, and gets a little whale eyed, but he instantly seeks comfort from his owner.

Peter loves to be loved on, played with, and food! He is super food motivated and young enough where he would be successful for any basic training. Peter is clean in crate, but does not like to be in one and is loud. He would like a yard to do his morning zoomies in. A young playful sibling would be ideal for him. Peter likes toys sometimes.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly

Tips and Tidbits: Peter is estimated at 2.5 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 1/10/2020.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
