My Story

Date into Rescue:1/27/2022

Reason for being in rescue: Leo was seized as part of a hoarding case in NC. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled him from the local shelter.

Special Needs: Leo is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. On 3/16/22 he had surgery to remove a 2 inch cyst from his side. Leo is vision impaired, but can see. His teeth are worn down. He is underweight but improving. His hair is thin, but returning. Life as a hoarding dog was hard on Leo but he has a beautiful spirit and a body that is healing happily!

What kind of home would be best for me: Leo is a dog that could fit into any home and any lifestyle. A more laid back and easy going boy you will not meet. He is great with dogs of all sizes and cats. He loves humans of all ages and sizes. He is happy going for strolls or Netflix and chill with you. He'd love it if you were home during the day, but would also be fine snoozing on a bed and waiting for you to get home from the office or errands.

What is my personality like: Leo arrived in rescue as part of a hoarding case. He was the only flat coat in a sea of curly haired poodles and doodles. Though his physical condition was terrible, you will never meet a sweeter or happier dog!

Leo doesn’t have a single negative bone in his body. Where you can find Leo you can find you happiness. He’s always enthusiastically wagging his tail, asking for attention, and playing until he’s tired enough to take a nap. Leo looks at life with an unparalleled optimism that we can all learn from! He does great on a harness and leash and will enjoy nice causal walks! He is not a high energy dog but he does love to get around to play! He does great with other dogs! Leo is also a strong believer that he must have something to chew on. Particularly he prefers stuffed bears.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Stranger is a vocabulary word Leo doesn't wants to know. He loves meeting new people and especially loves it when those people shower him in love!

Tips and Tidbits: We have no records pre-rescue on Leo. He was estimated at 7 years old by the shelter and our vet supports that recommendation (though it's been a hard 7 years). We celebrate Leo's birthday as 01/27/2015.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
