My Story

Date into Rescue: 2/18/2022

Reason for being in rescue: LuRay was surrendered to a TN shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled her from the shelter.

Special Needs: LuRay is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative.

What kind of home would be best for me: LuRay can be a handful and a challenge. She is quirky, opinionated and demanding. She also has a sweet, sweet side once she opens up and trust.  LuRay needs a home that understands that she will need patience and training.  She would thrive in a home that believes strongly in positive reinforcement and in Nothing in Life Is Free training. LuRay is best friends with a dog named Hamilton at our rescue. They are not bonded, but do enjoy each other's company. LuRay would benefit from a home with another low key small dog. She does not appreciate large dogs; she has never been tested with cats. LuRay is not suited for a home with children.

What is my personality like: Luray is a girl who wants to be good but does not have to tools in life right now to achieve that goal. She has that classic spicy Shih tzu personality that needs redirected through positive training. She’s a girl with boundaries, a girl that knows what she does and doesn’t like and will give warnings to when you are doing something she doesn’t like. She can live with other dogs but if they do something she doesn’t like she likes to tell them off. For example if she gets snapped on she will bark and bark at that dog to let them know that wasn’t cool.

LuRay is a vocal dog. She has potential to be a good lap/companion dog to someone who has a steady routine, quiet/low traffic home, and someone dedicated to train her and set boundaries with her so she doesn’t think she rules the house. LuRay absolutely loves to spend time in the sunshine and will spend hours laying outside if you let her.

LuRay needs positive training and as many positive socialization experiences she can get to become the best version of himself! She has so much potential but she will be a lot of work! She will need just the right home that can show her the balance of love, patience, training, and more that will be essential in her life!

How do I act when I first meet new people: LuRay can be a little cautious meeting new people and won’t want to be picked up immediately. She loves treats and that would be a great place to start on your journey to win her heart over!

Tips and Tidbits: LuRay's owners stated she is 5 years old. We celebrate her birthday as 2/18/2017.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
