My Story

Date into Rescue: 4/16/2022

Reason for being in rescue: stray

Special Needs: Novak is neutered and up to date on vaccines. Novak arrived in rescue highly heartworm positive and has been treated over the past 9 months. Today he is testing heartworm negative. Regular heartworm prevention is an absolute must, non-negotiable for Novak.

What kind of home would be best for me: Novak is a dapper gentleman who loves to adventure around outside, and can exist both alone and with other fur friends. He still likes to play with others on occasion, and could live with another calm, mild to low energy dog. Novak is also great with cats, so they would be no issue for him. Novak’s ideal home environment has a wide range; he could live with an older couple/family with minimal activity, but would also excel with a moderate activity level and occasional outings. His caregivers believe kids would also not be an issue for him, as Novak loves all people.

What is my personality like: Novak came to CPR in mid April of 2022 and was found as a stray by a rescue employee. When we found him, he was extremely emaciated & severely Heartworm positive, had horrible skin issues, and overall just not in good health. We are not sure what Novak had gone thru, but his condition was breathtaking. He was on his last breath. He was weak, malnourished, barley any hair remaining on his body, and dehydrated. Our team worked around the clock for several days after his arrival to get him back to health. Although he had a very rough life prior to us, he never lost hope. Novak has always had a positive outlook on life and shows nothing less than every bit of love he has to offer.

Novak loves other dogs of all sizes, and while he is a bit older, his heart is still very young. Over the course of the past 10 months, Novak has excelled phenomenally health-wise given his previous history. Novak has never met a stranger and loves to receive attention from anybody who is willing to give it. He has also shown to be house broken, and currently does not sleep in a crate.

Novak is a super sweet affectionate dude. He loves with all his heart and just asks for the same in return. He enjoys being with his people and seeks them out when he wants attention. He happily greets all his friends with a happy tail wag and his long tongue out showing off his smile from all the happiness in his heart. When Novak isn't around his people or furfriends then he's in his bed inside or sunbathing in the yard and he politely asks for this in his new home.

Novak enjoys playing with dogs of all sizes and temperaments. He has the nickname as Uncle Novak because he gets to hang out with any puppies that come to our doors. He shows them the basics ropes and gives them confidence to play and be rough without the concern of being in danger. He lets the other dogs tug on his ears, bite his legs and pull on his tail. Novak is super easy going and just requires a bit of food and a bed to lay his head on. He is a gem for grooming and loves to be brushed. He will literally let anyone do anything to him, because in his eyes this is all attention for him. Novak has some flaky skin due to seasonal allergies but this can be minimized with coconut oil or fish oil added to his meals.

Novak guy is a bit on the older side and doesn't have a lot of energy. What he lacks in active energy he makes up for in love and loyalty!

How do I act when I first meet new people: Novak has never met a stranger. This guy does not have a mean bone in his body. He thrives on people's attention. He will come trotting up to you, he will put his head between your legs, he will lean on you and flop his head under your hand. All this guy wants is head pats.

Tips and Tidbits: Novak was still found as a stray so we have absolutely no history on him. Based on his overall health and condition he is estimated at 10 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 04/16/22.

House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Potential Adopters

Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.

Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
