What kind of home would be best for me: Roman is a great boy who likes to choose his friends. He is indifferent to cats and has done well when exposed to smaller dogs. Roman does not appreciate other dogs in his face and will let them know he prefers to meet under kinder terms. He is a great companion to dogs that are scared and will happily allow others to follow him. Roman would be happy as the only dog in your home. We do not recommend Roman for a home with children under 10 or that have never had a pet. He is accustomed to living life on his terms and needs experienced owners committed to training.
What is my personality like: We have very little history on Roman. We know that he was owned by a family. How they obtained him we do not know. We know that he was kept in poor conditions. We know that when a distant relative realized his overall condition she convinced the family to surrender him to rescue. And this is where Roman's story really begins.
While Roman's age is an estimate, we know that he has the gut of an older man but the spunk and personality of a younger poodle. He loves his people, walks, and most importantly FOOD!!! He will just about anything for it whether it be sit, down, and speak OR stay right by your side (off leash potential). Roman is described by his lead caregiver as a sweetie pie with lots of opinions he's not afraid to voice. He is clean in his crate and walks well on a leash. He does get a little excited when on a leash and pulls at first, but improves with time. Roman's love for food can be a blessing and a curse. On the bright side he's easily trainable on the bad side he can be quite mischievous to get what he wants, this includes counter surfing and dumpster diving.
Roman has so much heart and potential to share. He absolutely loves balls and will play for hours. We have noted that Roman can be very possessive of his ball, and will sometimes growl if you try to take it away. He is a great candidate for positive reinforcement training and will make a wonderful companion!
How do I act when I first meet new people: Friendly
Tips and Tidbits: Roman is estimated at 7 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 5/7/2015.
House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog, take a look at the distance between the dog's location and your location and make sure you are able to make the trip.
Thank you for your interest in a dog who needs a new home. This description contains all that we currently know about this dog. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. When screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, age, temperament, personality, etc. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
